CINCINNATI -- As Ernie Banks might have said in 2020, let's play 1.56.
The Pirates and Cardinals will make up their postponed series from this week with a pair of doubleheaders, Major League Baseball announced Friday.
The first will come on Aug. 27 in St. Louis, which was a mutual off-day for the two clubs. The Pirates were originally scheduled to travel from Chicago to Milwaukee that day. The first game will start at 3:15 p.m. EDT.
The second will be on Sept. 18. That will be part of what is now a five-game series from Sept. 17-20 at PNC Park.
Game one of that twin bill will take place at 4:05 p.m.. The Cardinals will be considered the home team for game two.
Because of MLB's health and safety protocols for 2020, all four of these games will be seven inning contests. Teams will still be allowed to carry add another player to the roster for the second game.
The two teams were scheduled to play Monday through Wednesday in St. Louis, but it was postponed after there was a second wave of positive COVID-19 tests from the Cardinals' clubhouse. The Pirates did not travel, instead taking an off-day Monday and working out at PNC Park Tuesday and Wednesday.
"I'm thankful that we got a few days head's up prior," Trevor Williams said Tuesday. "It's much better than going there and sitting in the hotel in St. Louis and not being able to work out, so I'm thankful that the MLB was proactive about it and gave us a head's up so we didn't have to travel."
The Cardinals are set to resume play Saturday against the Cubs. MLB announced a new schedule for them Friday, with them playing 58 games. To this point, they have played just five games and have been sidelined since July 31 because of multiple waves of the virus within their clubhouse.
