CINCINNATI -- The remaining games this weekend between the Pirates and Reds have been postponed after a player on the Reds tested positive for COVID-19 Friday, a source tells DK Pittsburgh Sports.
Both clubs conducted additional testing and went through contact tracing Saturday in Cincinnati.
The Pirates and Reds completed their second game of a four-game series Friday night. They were scheduled to play Saturday and Sunday.
There are no make-up dates for these games yet. Both clubs share a mutual off-day Monday. The Pirates also return to Cincinnati to play the Reds in a three-game series from Sept. 14-16, as well as a three-game series at PNC Park from Sept. 4-6.
It is the fourth time this week the Pirates have had a game postponed because of another team's positive test. Their series with the Cardinals, which was supposed to take place Monday through Wednesday in St. Louis, was postponed after there was a second wave of the virus in the Cardinals' clubhouse.
Those games will be made up with a pair of double-headers, one on Aug. 27 in St. Louis and another on Sept. 18 at PNC Park.
The Cardinals' outbreak was one of two major ones within the sport this year, the other being the Marlins. The Marlins played the Phillies during opening day weekend despite knowing some players, who had been isolated, had tested positive for the virus. The Phillies had staffers test positive for the virus shortly after that series.
On Friday, Major League Baseball and the players association jointly released the results to last week's testing, revealing that the Cardinals were the only team to have a positive test.
More to come throughout the day.
