Penguins center Evgeni Malkin underwent surgery on his left elbow today.
He is expected to need a recovery period of three to four weeks, which means he should be healed well before the training camp that will precede the 2020-21 season.
The surgery was performed at UPMC Presbyterian by Dr. Dharmesh Vyas, the team physician, and Dr. John Fowler of the UPMC shoulder and elbow orthopedic surgery department.
A source said that the issue that prompted the surgery existed before the Penguins' qualifying-round series against Montreal, during which Malkin had one point.
