Pirates

Memory Lane: A talk with Jack Wilson

Introducing the newest podcast for DK Sports Radio: Memory Lane. Each weekend I will be sitting down with former Pittsburgh athletes and reflecting on the time they spent in the Steel City.

These shows will be a bit different than the rest of our audio content. Unlike the daily sports team podcast's, morning java or daily shot, Memory Lane will be an evergreen podcast, meaning it is not time sensitive.

The episodes will be extra long so you lunatics will have something to listen to over the weekend. Heading on a road trip out of town or busy with an afternoon full of house chores? This is the podcast for you.

For our first episode, I sit down with former Pirates shortstop Jack Wilson.

As someone who grew up watching the Pirates in the early 2000's, Jack was one of the few reasons I would tune in each night. His endless hustle and competitive spirit made him a fan favorite in Pittsburgh.

Selected by the Cardinals in the ninth round of the 1998 MLB draft, Wilson came to Pittsburgh two years later in exchange for Jason Christiansen. During his nine years as a Pirate (2000-2009) he established himself as one of the better fielders in the game. He also got the job done at the plate, earning a silver slugger award in 2004.

Jack and I discussed a wide range of topics, including the countless times his teammates were traded, his relationship with former teammate and National League batting champion Freddy Sanchez, his thoughts on modern day baseball and where he was the night Lloyd McClendon infamously stole first base.

I had a ton of fun recording this first episode. I hope you all enjoy it as well!

P.S. Be sure to give Jack a follow on instagram. He is new to social media and is hoping to gain a few followers: @jack.wilson_2
