Preseason honors continue to pile up for Pitt defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman and safety Paris Ford. with Sporting News being the latest publication to honor the juniors.
Twyman was a first-team All-America selection, while Ford is a second-team pick at defensive back.
Previously, Twyman earned preseason All-America honors from Walter Camp Football Foundation and Athlon Sports. Ford also was honored by Athlon.
Twyman and Ford both enjoyed breakout seasons in 2019, their first as regular starters.
Twyman finished with 41 tackles, including 12 for loss and 10.5 sacks. He was the first defensive tackle to lead Pitt in sacks since Aaron Donald had 11 in 2013. Twyman was tabbed a second-team All-American by six selectors and was a first-team All-ACC pick.
Ford led Pitt last season with 97 tackles and three interceptions, and ranked second on the team in pass breakups (11) and forced fumbles (three). He also earned first-team all-conference honors.
Ford and Twyman were among a group of Pitt defenders, along with defensive end Patrick Jones II, who considered entering the NFL Draft last season but opted to return. The trio helped the Panthers finish No. 15 nationally in total defense in 2019.
The NCAA recognizes Sporting News as one of five media outlets used to determine consensus All-America status.
