The Steelers' safety shuffle might finally be complete.
The team released veteran J.J. Wilcox on Monday, as our Dale Lolley had reported would happen earlier in the day, That will save $3.125 million in salary cap space for 2018, as well as carving out space for a wave of new faces at the position in free-agent signings Morgan Burnett and Nat Berhe, then two NFL Draft picks over the weekend, Terrell Edmunds in the first round and Marcus Allen in the fifth.
Lost in the process: Mike Mitchell, Robert Golden and now Wilcox. The lone holdover among mainstays: Sean Davis.
Wilcox, 27, never made much of an impact, playing in 12 games in 2017, starting one, with 12 tackles and one interception. He also was prone to taking terribly undisciplined penalties on special teams.
