Frustration. Disappointment. Downright sadness.
All would be great words to describe Major League Baseball fans as they've been forced to watch the back-and-forth between the league and the players' association the past month. Whether it was players tweeting their frustrations, or commissioner Rob Manfred hedging on whether there will be a season or not.
The entire situation has been one big mess, and it seems as if, at the witching hour, the two sides are closing in on a deal to have a season in 2020. Here is the official statement released by Manfred:

Reports earlier Wednesday saw the league made an offer to the players which some thought might be the deal which was agreed upon for the sport to resume. Here are the quick details of the offer, per Jeff Passan of ESPN:
Worth noting: MLB’s last offer to the players maxed out at $1.5 billion. The money over a 60-game season at full pro rata: $1.5 billion.
If there’s a deal to be done, it is going to be for more than 60 games. Union will counter higher. And somewhere in the middle is the season.

Was it the deal to end this mess, or will the players want more? The statement from Mandred had writers crunching numbers, wondering if it was enough to get a deal done.
Approx. $1.51B MLB would pay players full prorated for 60 games equates to 83 pct players would have received if postseason was played to conclusion in MLB’s last offer of 72 games. Hunch is players will want that number to grow. Is $1.66B for 66 games enough?

There were mixed emotions throughout the process, and the reaction stretched far and wide, so it is worth it to take the time and review what was said with baseball potentially coming back to the sports landscape.

Wish the sides could have gotten an agreement to maximize games/credibility. Also remember telling MLB folks at beginning of lockdown that if I were commissioner and could guarantee the season could restart by Aug. 1, I would have signed up for that in the moment vs. the virus.

Y’all need to stop leaking false information and getting everybody’s hopes up. Don’t say s*** until there’s a done deal period.
