JOHN PERROTTO, born in New Brighton and raised in Ohioville, a municipality in Beaver County and not Ohio, covers the Pirates and Major League Baseball for DKPittsburghSports.com

Career: John graduated from Geneva College with a degree in journalism. He began his career as a 14-year-old in 1978, covering high school sports for the now-defunct Beaver Falls (Pa.) News-Tribune. John worked for the Beaver County Times from 1982-2008, spending the last 21 years as the Pirates’ beat writer then logged one season covering the team for Ogden Newspapers. From 2010 until joining DKPittsburghSports.com in October 2018, he was an independent journalist and wrote for various outlets, including USA Today, The Associated Press, Baseball Prospectus and Baseball America.

Personal: John’s athletic claim to fame was hitting a home run off John Burkett in Pony League and giving up a home run to Terry Francona in high school. Burkett won 166 games as a major league pitcher and Francona managed the Boston Red Sox to two World Series titles. John was inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 --- for writing, not playing baseball --- and resides in Beaver Falls with his wife Brenda.
