The Steelers have signed veteran running back Stevan Ridley to replace rookie James Conner on their 53-man roster. Conner was scheduled to have surgery to repair an MCL injury and was placed on injured reserve today.

Ridley, 28, is a six-year veteran who spent most of his career with the Patriots, who selected him in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He spent four seasons in New England, with his best year coming in 2012 when he rushed for 1,263 yards. He appeared in eight games with the Jets in 2015 and one game with Atlanta in 2016.

Ridley went to training camp this season with the Broncos but did not make the roster. He also signed briefly with Minnesota this season.

He has rushed for 2,914 yards and 22 touchdowns in his career.

Conner, a third-round draft pick, was injured early in the fourth quarter of the Steelers' 27-24 loss against New England Sunday. He finishes the season with 32 carries for 144 yards, an average of 4.5 yards per carry.

With Ridley now in the mix, the Steelers also have veteran Fitzgerald Toussaint on their active roster and Terrell Watson on their practice squad behind NFL rushing leader Le'Veon Bell.
