After Tom Wilson's latest hit to the head, some retired players didn't hold back on social media.
While most condemned Wilson's dangerous hit and disregard for the safety of other players, some defended him.
Tyler Kennedy was one of the players surprised by the officiating:
He jumped like 3 feet in the air !!! #brutal #LETSGOPENS

Another former Penguin, Georges Laraque, thinks that Ryan Reaves would have prevented this:
The @penguins GM got @rreaves75 this year because of the treatment their Stars got last year in the playoff, now for some reason you get rid of him and now Wilson will cost you the serie... He would have been invisible with Reaves out there!!!

Patrick O'Sullivan reacted to the news that Zach Aston-Reese had a broken jaw:
Pretty tough to achieve if the head isn’t the principal point of contact. https://t.co/3KFM68Y0Ld

The people saying Aston-Reese obtained the injury because his head hit the ice. When did that happen? https://t.co/PzuoqZA2H4

Daniel Carcillo of all people went off on Wilson. Since retiring, Carcillo has become an advocate for mental health and concussion awareness. He blamed the league for not taking action after Game 2:
Had the league of denial made the right call in game 2 with Wilson’s hit to the head on Doumilin, Reese’s jaw would be in tact & he wouldn’t be suffering from a traumatic brain injury. He is now at risk for early on set #Alzheimers #dementia #parkinsons #tbi #cte @NHLPlayerSafety

Carcillo then broke down the hit:
1/ If u have played the game the way I have, this clip is not that difficult to break down. Notice Wilson’s right skate before or at the initial point of contact. It is leaving the ice intentionally, which means he thrusts his body into an upward direction, which is towards the https://t.co/IVLTdBNakg

2/ head of Reese. If we look at the left skate during the point of contact, Wilson is rising up onto his toe, as if he is trying to jump, hence the reason he ended up sitting on the dasher of his own bench after the hit. It is clear that Reese sees Wilson coming but that has very

3/ little to do with the fact that Wilson clearly makes contact with the head/jaw of Reese, in direct result of jumping and thrusting his body in an upward motion. Bc of this, we have a human being who may get the right diagnosis of a #concussion yet will he receive the treatment
— Daniel Carcillo (@CarBombBoom13) May 2, 2018
4/ he so very clearly deserves, from a league that refuses to admit a link between traumatic brain injuries and the need for treatment #cte @NHLPlayerSafety #nhldobetter #georgeparros @NHL #denial @NHLPA #compliance #tbi #alzheimers #dementia #parkinsons #depression #anxiety #nhl

Former Capital and current color analyst for NBCSports Washington Craig Laughlin doesn't understand why the hit was "controversial"
Why is every hit controversial ?and all we seem to focus on? This is a fabulous game tonight and the passion , grit and heart is being left on the ice by every single player! @NBCSWashington pic.twitter.com/vS1tZLo4Le

Mike Commodore also didn't mind the hit:
This is the only angle I have seen...but it looks clean to me. Go Pens! https://t.co/o3ubGwkfH9
