Tristan Jarry. - MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

The Penguins have signed Tristan Jarry, their last remaining restricted free agent, to a two-year contract with an average annual value of $675,000, it was announced on Thursday.

The contract is a two-way deal in 2018-19, and a one-way deal in 2019-20. When Jarry's contract expires in 2020, he will be a restricted free agent again.

Jarry, 23, is exempt from waivers for the 2018-19 season, but will require waivers beginning in the 2019-20 season because he will have completed four professional seasons by that time.

Jarry split time between Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season. He posted a 2.77 goals against average and a .908 save percentage in 26 NHL games, and recorded a 3.05 goals against average and .901 save percentage in 16 AHL games. He appeared in all three of Wilkes-Barre's playoff games, and recorded a 3.31 goals against average and .894 save percentage.

Wilkes-Barre's short-lived 2018 playoff run was Jarry’s first playoff run as the No. 1 goaltender. Though Wilkes-Barre was swept in the best-of-5 series, Jarry thought the experience was good for his development.

“I think just getting better and better, that’s been my mindset all year,” he told me. “That’s something that I’ve been trying to do the last couple years with Pittsburgh that I’ve been in their organization. This playoff run will help me.”
