The Penguins have recalled Jean-Sebastien Dea from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, it was announced Friday.
Since being reclaimed from the Devils off waivers on Nov. 29, Dea has played in two games with Wilkes-Barre, centering a line with Adam Johnson and Ryan Haggerty. He recorded a team-high nine shots in his Wilkes-Barre debut this season on Nov. 30 in Rochester, and recorded two primary assists and three shots on Dec. 1 in Toronto against the Marlies.
I asked Johnson on Thursday about Dea’s impact on Wilkes-Barre.
“It’s huge, especially for the team,” Johnson said. “You get another really solid centerman, I’m lucky enough to get to play with him. We had a good weekend last weekend. It’s nice to play with someone who has NHL experience, hopefully I can stay with him and we can keep producing.”
Dea can remain on the NHL roster for up t0 10 games or 30 days, whichever comes first, without needing additional waivers to be re-assigned to Wilkes-Barre.
To make room for the recall, Dominik Simon was placed on injured reserve retroactively. He will be eligible to return on Dec. 12, if healthy. Simon sustained an apparent lower-body injury on Dec. 4.
Patric Hornqvist's status also remains uncertain for the Penguins' upcoming three-game road trip that begins tomorrow night in Ottawa and includes stops in Long Island and Chicago. He suffered what appeared to be another head injury late in the first period Thursday night. Mike Sullivan will update his condition following Saturday's morning skate at Canadian Tire Centre.
