Ethan Prow will represent the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on the Atlantic Division team at the 2019 AHL All-Star Classic, it was announced Thursday.

"It's a huge honor to be named from the Penguins here," Prow told reporters following his selection. "It feels good being able to go there and represent your team. It feels great."

The 26-year-old defenseman is having a breakout year in his third professional season. Prow is third in scoring on Wilkes-Barre, with 22 points in 35 games. His 10 goals and 12 assists each rank second on the team. Prow is second in the league in goal-scoring among defensemen.

Despite his success offensively, Prow said he was still a little surprised to earn the nod, calling it a "once in a lifetime" experience.

"I think it's always a surprise with how many good players are in the league and on our team," said Prow. "I mean, I think you could have picked just about anybody in there. They're all having a great year. You always kind of think in the back of your head that I’m having a pretty decent year myself; you never know. I guess this was the year."

The coach didn't sound so surprised to see Prow named to the roster, though.

"I think it's great," said Clark Donatelli. "He's worked tremendously hard on and off the ice. He got a good summer, and he got off on the right foot. He's a really good player. We're really happy that he's recognized for how good he is; we've known how good of a player he is. We're really happy for him."

The All-Star Skills Competition between the Eastern and Western conferences will be held Jan. 27 in Springfield, Mass. Jan. 28 will feature the four division teams in a 3-on-3, round-robin tournament with six games of 10 minutes each. The two teams with the best records at the end of the round-robin will face off for the championship, a six-minute, 3-on-3 game.
