Many people believed that Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle's job would be toast following his team's blown 3-0 lead and 7-4 loss to the Penguins on Friday night.
Following the game, an Anaheim reporter asked Carlyle if he was “worried anything could happen to you as a result of this?”
To which the coach answered: “What do you mean? What are you trying to say? … What do you think? Don’t ask the dumb questions.”
Instead, it is forward Andrew Cogliano's time in Anaheim that is coming to an end. The Ducks traded 31-year-old Cogliano to the Dallas Stars for 24-year-old forward Devin Shore on Monday.
Cogliano has recorded three goals and eight assists in 46 games for the Ducks this season while carrying a $3,250,000 cap hit. Shore has registered five goals and 12 assists in 42 games with the Stars, and carries a cap hit of $2,300,000.
A sign of more moves to come from the Ducks? Well, maybe not. Ducks Executive Vice President and General Manager Bob Murray issued a statement following his team's 4-3 overtime loss to the Jets Sunday night that the team is "not considering" firing Carlyle.
“While it is not my preference to make comments on this topic during the season, our recent play has led to many questions. Our fans are frustrated, rightfully so, and deserve a response from me," said Murray in a team release. “At this time, I am not considering a coaching change. I am more focused on our players, specifically with who is going to step up in this situation. The way we played (Sunday) was a step in the right direction, but we need much, much more. We have higher expectations for this group and they should expect more from themselves.”
The Penguins will play the Stars once more this season, in Dallas on March 23. They will not play the Ducks again this season, having split their two games.
