The Penguins have assigned forward Joseph Blandisi to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Jim Rutherford announced Sunday morning.
This was an expected move with the Penguins beginning their bye week on Sunday. Since Blandisi is a player who requires waivers but already cleared once in the beginning of the season, he is eligible to play up to 10 games or spend up to 30 days on the active NHL roster, whichever comes first, before he would require further waivers to be assigned in the future. This move prevents him from accumulating days on the active roster while the Penguins are on break, and of course play some games.
The Penguins will play their next game on Jan. 28 at home vs. the Devils. Wilkes-Barre will play three games before then -- at home vs. Lehigh Valley on Monday at 1 p.m., a game in Bridgeport on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., and one in Binghamton on Saturday at 7 p.m.
With Wilkes-Barre facing injuries to forwards Thomas Di Pauli, Ben Sexton, and Sam Lafferty, they can surely use Blandisi's help over the next week.
Blandisi played in one game since being acquired by the Penguins, a 3-2 overtime win over the Coyotes on Friday night. He registered two shots in 6:47 of ice time on the fourth line with Matt Cullen and Garrett Wilson.
