Bryan Rust hobbles off the ice. -- MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- That's two more down.

The Penguins lost Bryan Rust and Chad Ruhwedel to injury Tuesday night in the 5-2 victory over the Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena, adding to a list that already had Kris Letang, Brian Dumoulin and Olli Maatta. All told, that's a quarter of the roster.

Rust was injured after this collision with Adam McQuaid with 1:05 remaining in the first period. McQuaid was also shaken up on the play and missed part of the second period:

Rust winced in pain as he skated toward the Penguins' tunnel, and appeared to avoid putting much weight on his left leg. Mike Sullivan confirmed following the game that Rust had a lower-body injury:

Ruhwedel was shaken up after this hit by Nick Foligno with 8:35 remaining in the second period, and immediately skated off to the locker room. He appeared to injure his right arm on the play:

Ruhwedel's defense partner, Marcus Pettersson, played most of his shifts with Zach Trotman following Ruhwedel's injury, while Jack Johnson and Justin Schultz remained together for the most part. Juuso Riikola rotated in for some shifts, but was used sparingly.

Letang and Dumoulin remain day-to-day with their injuries. Erik Gudbranson is expected to arrive in Pittsburgh soon after his immigration issues are sorted out. The Penguins don't play again until Friday in Buffalo, so it likely won't be necessary to recall another defenseman.

Sullivan did not have further updates on either player following the game, adding that both players will be assessed when the team gets back to Pittsburgh.

The Penguins are scheduled to practice at noon at the Lemieux Sports Complex on Wednesday.
