CRANBERRY, Pa. -- As we near the start of the NCAA men's hockey tournament, the seniors from teams who fell short of a bid are signing contracts and turning pro.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton signed two graduating Boston College seniors to amateur tryout contracts for the remainder of the 2018-19 season -- forward Chris Brown and defenseman Michael Kim. Kim has also already been signed to a full AHL-level contract for the 2019-20 season.
Brown, 23, recorded seven goals and nine assists in 39 games in his senior season. Through four seasons, he recorded 27 goals and 45 assists in 151 games. He's 6-feet, 180 pounds.
Brown's father, Doug Brown, played 854 games in the NHL, primarily with the Red Wings and Devils, plus one season in Pittsburgh in 1993-94. Chris' brother, Patrick Brown, has spent the past five years in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers. Chris' uncle, Greg Brown, played 94 games in the NHL, including 36 in Pittsburgh in 1993-94. His other uncle, John Mara, is the president, CEO, and co-owner of the New York Giants.
Brown was a 2014 sixth-round pick of the Sabres. The Sabres own his exclusive rights until Aug. 15 this summer, but they won't be signing him.
Kim turns 24 this summer. The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman has a left shot and was undrafted. He recorded three goals and 12 assists in 39 games his senior year, and 14 goals, 48 assists through 140 games in all four years.
