Domink Simon scores vs. Latvia. -- ANDRE RINGUETTE / IIHF

Dominik Simon was one of the stars of the Czech Republic's 6-3 win over Latvia.

Centering the Czech's top line, Simon scored a third-period insurance goal and assisted on two others. He picked up the primary assist on linemate Jakub Voracek's second-period goal:

Simon's three points were the second-most on the team, behind Voracek's two-goal, two-assist performance. Simon led the team with five shots on goal and registered a plus-3 rating in 18:26 of ice time.

Simon now has five points (one goal, four assists) in four games in the tournament.

Teddy Blueger led the Latvians with 24:06 of ice time. He was scoreless with a minus-2 rating in the loss.

• Canada defeated France, 5-2Matt Murray backed up Carter Hart in the win. Jared McCann registered no points in 13:10 for Canada.

• Sweden took the win over Austria with a 9-1 blowout. It was Sweden's first game of the tournament in which Patric Hornqvist did not score a goal. He did, however, earn secondary assists on Sweden's third and eighth goals of the game. He recorded two shots and a plus-2 rating in 15:54 of ice time.

Marcus Pettersson was scoreless in 12:25, registering a plus-3 rating.

Around the rest of the tournament:

• Finland beat Denmark, 3-1Kaapo Kakko scored his sixth goal of the tournament, tied with Russia's Evgenii Dadonov for the tournament lead:

Kakko's making a strong case to be No. 1 overall pick this summer.

Simon will be the only Penguins player in action on Friday, as the Czech Republic plays Italy. Finland will play Great Britain, Austria will play Norway, and France will play Slovakia.
