CRANBERRY, Pa. -- The NHLPA declined to reopen the current collective bargaining agreement, ensuring labor peace until at least 2022, NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr announced on Monday.

The current CBA is set to expire following the 2021-22 season. Both the league and the player’s association had the option this year to opt out early and reopen the CBA in 2020, which could have led to a lockout to start the 2020-21 season.
The league's deadline to make a decision on reopening the CBA was on Sept. 1, and the league announced on Aug. 30 that it would not exercise its right to reopen the CBA.
