The Penguins have assigned forward Adam Johnson to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Mike Sullivan announced on Sunday.
This is Johnson's final season of waivers-exempt status, so he was assigned directly to Wilkes-Barre.
Johnson sustained a lower-body injury during training camp and had not skated since Sept. 16. Players cannot be sent down to the AHL unless they are cleared to play, which means Johnson has been cleared to play.
Johnson participated in the first 25 minutes of Penguins practice on Sunday.
After Wilkes-Barre's round of cuts from training camp on Sunday morning, that leaves the following forwards in Wilkes-Barre:
Adam Johnson
Joseph Blandisi
Oula Palve
Justin Almeida
Jordy Bellerive
Jake Lucchini
Ben Sexton
Thomas Di Pauli
Anthony Angello
Sam Lafferty
Kasper Bjorkqvist
