Jared McCann. - MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

Jared McCann will be a game-time decision for the Penguins' 7:08 p.m. start against the Avalanche at PPG Paints Arena on Wednesday, Mike Sullivan announced.

McCann did not participate in Tuesday's practice, and Sullivan said at the time that he was considered day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

The Penguins held a highly, highly optional morning skate on Wednesday morning, with only Erik GudbransonChad Ruhwedel, Matt Murray, and Tristan Jarry participating, so there was no indication of McCann's status to be taken from the skate.

When the Penguins practiced on Tuesday without McCann, they used the following lines and combinations, with Juuso Riikola filling in on the fourth line:

Jake Guentzel -- Sidney Crosby -- Dominik Simon
Dominik Kahun -- Sam Lafferty -- Patric Hornqvist
Zach Aston-Reese -- Teddy Blueger -- Brandon Tanev
Adam Johnson -- Joseph Blandisi -- Juuso Riikola

Brian Dumoulin -- Kris Letang
Marcus Pettersson -- Justin Schultz
Jack Johnson -- John Marino
Chad Ruhwedel -- Erik Gudbranson

The Penguins didn't make any recalls from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton today and aren't carrying any extra forwards, so if McCann isn't able to play, the Penguins will presumably run a lineup of 11 forwards and seven defensemen.
