Kevin Czuczman. -- MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

The Penguins have assigned forwards Joseph Blandisi and Thomas Di Pauli and defenseman Kevin Czuczman to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Jim Rutherford announced on Sunday.

With the Penguins being on holiday break until their Dec. 27 game in Nashville, assigning the players now prevents them from needlessly accumulating days on an NHL active roster that could impact their waiver status down the line. A player can spend up to 30 days (or 10 games played, whichever comes first) on an NHL roster after clearing waivers once during the season before they would need to clear waivers a second time.

Wilke-Barre is also on holiday break, with its next game not being until Dec. 27 at home against Lehigh Valley.

Neither Di Pauli nor Czuczman played in the two games since they were recalled from Wilkes-Barre on Friday, and just served as possible reinforcements for the latter two games of the western Canada road trip. Blandisi appeared in four games -- a home game against the Kings and all three games of the road trip -- since he was last recalled on Dec. 14.
