Jake Guentzel left the Penguins' 5-2 win on Monday night against the Senators after crashing hard into the boards.
UPDATE: The Penguins announced on Tuesday morning that Guentzel will be sidelined for 4-6 months. More on that here.
He scored the Penguins' fifth goal 6:55 into the third period, and went headfirst into the boards:
The goal was his 200th career NHL point after also tallying two assists in the win.
He immediately left the ice under his own power and went down the tunnel to the Penguins' locker room, appearing to favor his right arm. Mike Sullivan did not have an update on Guentzel's status after the game, saying he was still being evaluated.
"It was really scary," Sullivan added. "Those are always dangerous when you fall that distance from the boards."
Sullivan said he believed the contact with Thomas Chabot that tripped Guentzel was just incidental contact and not anything intentional.
If Guentzel misses any time, it goes without saying that it's a massive loss. He's an All-Star and the team's leading scorer. If he's out, Evgeni Malkin said he'll have to step up.
"We don't want more injuries," Malkin said. "It looked not good. But everyone understands it's hockey. It's tough. Sometimes we have couple injuries. I need to play better next game if Jake doesn't play."
With 156 man games lost so far this season, it's nothing players aren't already used to this season.
"We have a great group of guys in here," Patric Hornqvist said. "We've been through so many injuries. Whatever happens, it feels like we find a way to win. We're going to keep doing it because we have a good team."
