A second Ottawa Senators player has tested positive for coronavirus, the team announced on Saturday.
Another Senators player previously tested positive on Tuesday for the first confirmed case of coronavirus in the NHL. The two Senators players are still the only confirmed cases in the league. The names of the two players have not been disclosed.
The Senators say that the second player was on the recent road trip to San Jose, Anaheim and Los Angeles from March 7 to March 11. The team says that there were a total of 52 players and staff on that trip, and 44 have shown no symptoms. Eight people were tested for the virus and two positive results were received. The team is still awaiting test results on some of the others who were tested.
The Senators were in Pittsburgh on March 3.
NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said earlier this week that the NHL is currently only testing players and staff who are symptomatic. Players who feel symptomatic report their symptoms to their team’s medical staff, and only a “fairly small number” of players have been tested so far.
