The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have re-signed forward Chase Berger to an AHL contract for the 2020-21 season, the team announced Wednesday.
Berger, a 25-year-old Penn State alum, just played 53 games in his first professional season with Wilkes-Barre, primarily centering the third line, and scored one goal and nine assists. He missed a month with a shoulder injury and was four games into his return before the AHL suspended its season due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Since the shutdown, Berger has been working out from home with the help of Wilkes-Barre's strength coach.
“Our strength coach is good, Mike Joyce,” Berger told me last month. “He sent us some workouts we can do from outside or in our apartments. We’ve got some things we can try our best to do, but at the end of the day when you’re not skating, it’s kind of hard.”
