The NBA will reopen its practice facilities to players for voluntary individual workouts on May 1 according to a report from ESPN NBA writer Adrian Wojnarowski.
Facilities will only be opened in states with loosened stay-at-home restrictions, and group workouts and other team activities are still prohibited.
The NBA will work to find alternative arrangements for individual workouts for players in areas still under restrictive stay-at-home orders. Given that many players are not currently living in their home city, it is expected that they will be permitted to work out in other teams' facilities if they are staying in another NBA team's city.
Wojnarowski also reports that the decision to reopen facilities for individual workouts "isn't reflective of a new timetable for a resumption of play this season," according to sources.
NHL facilities remained closed to players unless the player is rehabbing from an injury. Sportsnet's John Shannon reported that the NBA reopening its practice facilities doesn't necessarily indicate that the NHL will do the same anytime soon.
