As bad as the Penguins' power play looked in Tuesday's 3-2 exhibition loss to the Flyers in overtime, their qualifying-round opponent Canadiens showed in their exhibition game that things could have been worse.
The Canadiens fell 4-2 to the Maple Leafs on Tuesday night in their lone exhibition game before the series with the Penguins begins on Aug. 1. Tomas Tatar and Paul Byron scored the Canadiens' two goals, and Carey Price allowed four goals on just 23 shots, playing the full game in net.
And while the Penguins' power play left a lot to be desired in their exhibition game, going 0-for-3 and taking a combined four shots, at least it didn't allow any goals.
The Canadiens' power play went 0-for-6, registered just a combined six shots, and allowed not one but two shorthanded goals. The first came from Alexander Kerfoot in the second period to put the Maple Leafs up 2-0:
The second was the Maple Leafs' final goal of the game, coming from Morgan Reilly:
"I'm going to be honest with you, you could definitely see some rust in our team because there's not a ton of players there that had high notes tonight," Canadiens coach Claude Julien said of his team's play after the game. "But hopefully enough of a game today to get the rust out and make sure we're ready to go come Saturday."
