Former Penguins assistant coach Jacques Martin wasn't out of a job for very long.
Martin, who was fired by the Penguins along with Sergei Gonchar and Mark Recchi on Aug. 12, was named an assistant coach by the Rangers on Monday.
Martin joined the Penguins' coaching staff in 2013 during Dan Bylsma's tenure as head coach. His role changed to that of a senior advisor after one season, and he was promoted back to assistant coach in Dec. 15 when Mike Sullivan was hired.
Martin primarily focused on the defensemen and the penalty kill with the Penguins.
Martin joins a Rangers coaching staff led by head coach David Quinn that also includes assistant coaches David Oliver and Greg Brown. He replaces Lindy Ruff, who took a job as head coach of the Devils.
