Defenseman Andrey Pedan, acquired from Vancouver in the Derrick Pouliot trade, signed a deal with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL, it was reported by the Russian Sport-Express.
Pedan, 24, set career highs in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season with nine goals and 17 assists in 52 games. He was one of Wilkes-Barre's top defensemen this season, and was a great skater despite being 6-foot-5. His main weaknesses were his control and discipline, often leaving Wilkes-Barre shorthanded after a bad penalty, in addition to his two suspensions this year.
Pedan was recalled to Pittsburgh earlier in the season, but did not play.
"I've been up so many times in Vancouver and I didn't play," he said of his recall. "If I play I will do my best, if not, it is what is. I'm past that point where I'm going to be pissed off."
Pedan was one of the four defensemen recalled to Pittsburgh as a member of the Black Aces on Saturday, along with Lukas Bengtsson, Chris Summers, and Jarred Tinordi.
Pedan was set to become a restricted free agent this summer. If the Penguins make him a qualifying offer, they can retain his NHL rights until he is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent at age 27.
