Sabres forward Girgensons training at Lemieux Complex

Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons has been training at the Penguins' Lemieux Complex in Cranberry throughout the month of June.

Penguins Performance Training, a sports training program run out of the Lemieux Complex, shared pictures and videos of Girgensons working out at the facility on Instagram:

Girgensons has been working alongside Penguins prospect Dane Birks, a defenseman who was the Penguins' sixth-round pick in 2013. Birks played in Wheeling this season, and has stayed in Pittsburgh all season to train.

Girgensons, 25, played on the Sabres' fourth line last season, and scored five goals and 13 assists in 72 games. He is one of three Latvian players who played in the NHL last season, with the others being Teddy Blueger and Senators forward Rudolfs Balcers.

Girgensons is a restricted free agent and isn't expected to receive a qualifying offer from the Sabres, but that's not why he's been hanging around the Lemieux Complex this summer. Girgensons' fiancée, Katie, is from Pittsburgh, and the two recently had a house built in the area.
