Max Talbot made official his retirement from professional hockey in June.
In a French-language story this week for Canadian newspaper Le Droit, Talbot spoke on his plans for his post-playing career.
Talbot is taking on a player development role with CAA (Creative Artists Agency) Hockey. The agency represents many players around the NHL, including Penguins Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jack Johnson. Other notable clients include Jonathan Toews, Anze Kopitar, John Tavares and Nathan MacKinnon.
The agency is led by Pat Brisson and JP Barry.
Talbot will be based out of Canada in the coming season, and will work with Brisson's clients André Ruel and Dominic Ricard on the Gatineau Olympiques, Talbot's former QMJHL team. So far, Talbot is enjoying his work with prospects.
"I'm still playing and I'm still training hard," he told Le Droit. "But I'm mainly focusing on my work for Pat Brisson. After the draft in Vancouver, where I talked to some of the young people we represent, I went to our development camp in Los Angeles, working with Jim Hughes (father of No. 1 pick Jack) with 16-, 17-year-olds mostly. In 10 days, I have another one in New York for older prospects. I like it so far. I'm learning a lot."
Talbot will also be doing some work for a sports television network, the specifics of which will be announced in September.
"I'm lucky to be able to do both to see what I would like to do," Talbot said. "We'll take it year by year for now."
This summer Talbot also played in the Bob Bissonnette Classic charity game, in memory of Talbot's former Olympiques teammate who died in a helicopter accident in 2016. Talbot's team won the championship, and he scored a hat trick in the win.
Talbot said that it'll be a different feeling once September comes, as for the first time in 15 years he won't be skating in a professional training camp. He'll still keep plenty busy, though.
"With three young children, the oldest of whom begins kindergarten this year, it was time to move on," he said.
