The Penguins lost Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust to injury in their 3-2 preseason finale loss to the Sabres on Saturday night.
Following the game, Mike Sullivan said both players were still being evaluated after being hit with shots and that the Penguins will have more definitive information by Sunday morning. The Penguins are scheduled to practice at PPG Paints Arena at 10:30 a.m.
Crosby went down the Penguins' tunnel with trainer Chris Stewart with 1:44 remaining in the first period and did not return.
Crosby's last shift was from about 2:46 remaining in the first period to about 2:05 remaining in the first. Here is a view of the shift in its entirety.
Sullivan said that Crosby had been hit by a shot, which is most likely this play from earlier in the period. Crosby blocked a shot from Marco Scandella with 13:21 remaining in the first but finished his shift. The shot appeared to catch him on the foot:
Jared McCann filled in as first-line center between Jake Guentzel and Brandon Tanev in Crosby's absence.
The Penguins earned a power play midway through the second period, and the first unit was Guentzel, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, Patric Hornqvist, and Dominik Simon.
Rust was injured while killing a penalty late in the third period. Colin Miller's shot caught Rust in the back of the left hand, and Rust was visibly in pain before heading down the tunnel:
